Center Point, TX (PRWEB) December 19, 2011

Starlite Recovery Center, an adult and adolescent substance abuse and alcohol rehabilitation treatment center in Texas, has announced the achievement of TRICARE certification. This certification allows the facility to provide addiction treatment services to any of the 9.6 million eligible beneficiaries of the uniformed services, retirees and their families worldwide.

We appreciate the commitment you have made to provide facility-based behavioral health services to the uniformed service members, their families and retirees, said Derrick Gore, TRICARE Provider Relations and Credentialing Director, in a written notice. This will play an important role in assuring the wellbeing of our countrys military community.

Being a TRICARE provider means that you are treating America’s heroes – the people making sacrifices to keep America strong and safe, reads the TRICARE website. The healthcare plan utilizes military healthcare as the main delivery system, but augments it with a civilian network of providers and facilities like that of Starlite Recovery Center.

Starlite is already one of the nation’s premier military recovery programs, said Four-Star General Barry McCaffrey, the former White House Drug Czar and current board member to CRC Health Group, Starlites parent company. We honor the treatment experts who do everything possible to assure our servicemen and women ongoing, productive lives. It is a national model facility in how its professionals help our military and veterans. It has made an important contribution over the past several years and now as our combat missions end in Iraq and Afghanistan.

For over three decades, Starlite Recovery Center has offered clients an unmatched natural environment in which to recover from the devastating effects of drug addiction and alcoholism. With a professional, interdisciplinary staff of physicians, counselors and nurses, and a focus on innovative chemical dependency treatment, Starlite provides the individualized therapeutic structure essential for a clients lasting recovery success. Starlite Recovery Center is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and licensed by the Texas Department of State Health Services.

We are very excited about the opportunity to provide services to our military personnel, both active and retired, as well as their families said Executive Director of Starlite Recovery Center Amy Swetnam. We are proud of the brave contributions they have made to our country and we are here to support them as needed.

Starlite Recovery Center is a member of CRC Health Group, the most comprehensive network of specialized behavioral care services in the nation. With this certification, Starlite becomes the fourth CRC facility to provide rehabilitation services to the military through TRICARE; the others are Life Center of Galax, Twelve Oaks Recovery Center and Wilmington Treatment Center.

CRC Health Group offers the largest array of personalized treatment options, allowing individuals, families, and professionals to choose the most appropriate treatment setting for their behavioral, addiction, weight management and therapeutic education needs. CRC is committed to making its services widely and easily available, while maintaining a passion for delivering advanced treatment. Since 1995, CRC programs have helped individuals and families reclaim and enrich their lives.

Washington, DC (PRWEB) December 06, 2011

According to founding attorney Mr. Gilliard, A result of the Federal government’s belt-tightening is that agency managers now seek to reduce the rolls of vulnerable and older workers, and to reduce the needs for government contractors. This is taking place in an environment in which thousands of unemployed Americans are ready to take the job of someone terminated from private sector employment. We are ready and equipped to defend government employees and government contractor employees who are unfairly let go, older employees who have asked to retire because they supposedly “make too much,” and employees forced to choose between blowing the whistle on management or themselves taking the blame for management fraud, waste and abuse of authority.”

Mr. Gilliard served as a Staff Counsel for the American Federation of Government Employees, AFL-CIO (AFGE), a federal-sector labor union with more than 600,000 members. His dedicated, relentless legal representation and nationwide outreach efforts to thousands of Transportation Security Administration airport screeners (Transportation Security Officers, or TSOs) was crucial to AFGEs successful 2010 collective bargaining representative election victory for TSOs. He has since in private practice represented employees before the U.S. Merit Systems Protection Board, the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

(PRWEB) November 23, 2011

We need to save Social Security and we need to save it now, said Dan Weber, president and founder of AMAC, the Association of Mature American Citizens.

Kicking off a national drive to get support for AMACs proposal to keep the Social Security program solvent for the next 75 years, Weber, who heads the 250,000 member organization of older Americans, said There is a simple, painless solution to fixing what is wrong with our Social Security system that is gathering bi-partisan support. Well be getting our message out to the people to urge their Senators and Representatives to join together in this effort.

There are two problems that threaten the system, according to AMAC. People are living a lot longer, and there are less workers putting money into the system. Combined, these situations create a tremendous pressure on the financial stability of Social Security.

The AMAC solution provides for a set back in ages for people to begin to receive Social Security benefits along with an adjustment on the Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA), while at the same time allowing for a new Social Security IRA. The proposal is adapted from proposals from Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison and others that have so far failed to take hold.

Weber said, By including a supplemental payroll deductible IRA, the plan would help workers to have an additional windfall of between $ 165,000 and $ 350,000 in addition to the regular earned Social Security benefits when reaching retirement age.

When asked about the prospects of it being passed into law with all the fighting that seems to be going on in Washington DC, Weber said I dont believe this is a Do-Nothing Congress. The AMAC proposal is a win-win solution for all, and the time has come for us to ensure that Social Security continues to be here for our children and grandchildren.

SUNDERLAND, M.D. (PRWEB) November 10, 2011

So Am I: What Teaching in a Prison Taught Me is a fascinating portrait of men in a GED class in a maximum-security prison working diligently to better themselves under sometimes heartbreakingly difficult circumstances. It also portrays Merle Helen Morrows struggle to view her students as multi-faceted individuals, rather than simply as convicts a struggle made more difficult when, after one and-a-half years of teaching, she discovered the nature of her students crimes and had to reconcile that knowledge with her feelings toward the men she had come to know and respect as friends.

Morrows perception of prisoners first began to change on Sept. 11, 2001, when she saw the sorrow and patriotism of prisoners in a maximum-security prison she was visiting in connection with her job at the Department of Justice. As a result, Morrow retired from the Department of Justice, and spring of 2002 found her teaching a GED class at the Maryland House of Correction, a mens maximum-security prison.

Initially intimidated by the prisoners, Morrow soon developed a rapport with the students in her class and found herself admiring their effort and their fortitude in the face of tremendous, albeit self-inflicted, difficulty. Her relationship with her students inspired in her the desire to share their stories with the outside world. Morrow made a promise to one of her students that she would let the general population know that the men in prison were not all monsters, but rather that many of them, like the men in her class, were individual human beings who had committed crimes but were trying to rehabilitate themselves, with little to no help either from the outside or from within the system that confined them.

Author Merle Helen Morrow practiced law for 30 years, and upon retirement taught a GED class in a mens maximum security prison for more than three years. Morrow has since volunteered in various capacities aiding prisoners, including teaching in a mens pre-release unit for one year and ongoing volunteer activities with the Maryland Restorative Justice Initiative, which awarded her the 2008 Volunteer of the Year Award. Morrow and her husband live in Maryland. She will donate her royalties to prisoner rehabilitation programs.
