RetirementLiving.com Launches Comprehensive Directory of U.S. Continuing Care Retirement Communities
Redding, CT (PRWEB) May 16, 2011
For seniors seeking to live in a continuing care retirement community (CCRC) anywhere in the United States, a new searchable online directory is now available to help. Today the Retirement Living Information Center has just launched a new CCRC Directory section within its popular web site, RetirementLiving.com.
The new CCRC directory enables one to search for a community either by state and city or state and county. It makes it very easy to find a CCRC anywhere in the United States. The search results provide the name of the community, a web link, address, phone number, and whether it is accredited or not.
“It is the most complete CCRC directory on the Internet,” states company president, Tom Wetzel.
The directory contains information on nearly 2,000 U.S. communities. It also identifies about 300 that have been accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, known as CARF International.
The new CCRC directory joins a family of other premium services available on RetirementLiving.com that require a nominal membership fee of $ 24.95 — a one-time charge that provides access forever. Membership benefits include access to the company’s famous “Great Places to Retire,” which has in-depth reports on 210 retirement destinations in 33 states, and access to the searchable Active Retirement Community Directory which lists nearly 1,800 active living (age 55-plus) communities.
What is a CCRC: Continuing Care Retirement Communities offer residents a lifestyle continuum, starting with independent living and progressing through assisted living, Alzheimer’s and dementia care, and nursing care, depending on what type of service is ultimately needed.
What is CARF: CARF is an independent, nonprofit accreditor of health and human services that operates in 17 countries on five continents. Accreditation by CARF is a sign of quality services and is an important consideration in any decision making process. The value of accreditation goes beyond a competitive distinction for continuing care service providers and provides a framework for continuous quality improvement.
About RLIC: RetirementLiving.com, operated by the Retirement Living Information Center, is an award-winning web site that helps seniors find places to live in retirement. The site also offers an array of valuable information to assist seniors in planning for an enjoyable retirement.

Demand for Gay Retirement Communities on the Rise – Strong Sales at Gay Retirement Development from Out Properties Affirm Growing Interest
Demand for Gay Retirement Communities on the Rise – Strong Sales at Gay Retirement Development from Out Properties Affirm Growing Interest
St. Louis, MO (PRWEB) March 3, 2008
According to reports by the US Census Bureau, there are an estimated three million gay and lesbian seniors currently living in the United States. Figures from the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force indicate that this number is expected to more than double over the next 25 years as the “gayby boom” generation fully transitions into retirement. Because many gay seniors find traditional retirement communities unprepared or unwilling to meet the needs of GLBT residents, the demand for gay retirement communities is stronger than ever.
In response to this growing need, Out Properties is proud to announce that lots in their new gay retirement development, Marigold Creek, are now available for advanced purchase. Located on 32 acres just outside of Phoenix, this upscale, retirement resort for gays, lesbians and their friends and family, is raising the bar on Arizona retirement communities.
“Our research told us that there was a definite need to present gay and lesbian seniors with retirement options that provide a safe and accepting community environment,” explains Debi Purvis, a Principal with Out Properties. “But we also knew that it wasn’t enough to stop there, so we spared no expense in the selection of location, and the variety of features and services that will be available to our residents.”
Considered by many as one of the best places to retire, ideal weather conditions and breathtaking landscapes made Arizona a natural choice for the location of Marigold Creek. The scenic property, just thirty minutes outside the booming Phoenix metro area, is surrounded by mountains, a regional lake and the pristine Sonoran desert.
In addition to an ideal desert locale, this high-end, gay retirement community offers the best of the best in available features and services, including a fitness center, day spa, poolside bar and grill, walking trails and an on-site activities director.
A Realtors’ party for Marigold Creek held earlier this month at one of the Phoenix area’s newest additions to the dining scene, Switch, drew over fifty attendees on the lookout for the best in Arizona retirement communities. By evening’s end, over 10 percent of the 190 available units at this luxury, gay retirement community were spoken for. In the few short weeks since the event, an additional seven units have been snapped up, bringing total sales for the first month of availability to an impressive 15 percent total.
Karen Taylor, director of advocacy & training at Services and Advocacy for GLBT Elders (SAGE), offers insight into the strong response Marigold Creek has experienced in the Arizona market, explaining that while the selection of a retirement community often involves consideration of factors that are important to all seniors, often GLBT elders are looking for something more. “There are GLBT seniors who will choose to live in a community where sexual orientation or gender identity will not only be tolerated, but celebrated,” said Taylor.

Arizona Boomers Find Trilogy Retirement Communities by Shea Homes to Be Good Value
Arizona Boomers Find Trilogy Retirement Communities by Shea Homes to Be Good Value
Phoenix, Arizona (Vocus/PRWEB) March 31, 2011
The year 2010 may go down as one of the worst years for the housing market. However, Trilogy by Shea Homes, a developer of active lifestyle resort communities, continued to do well and thrive.
In Arizona, Trilogy boasts two active adult communities that have boosted its new home sales—Encanterra Country Club and Trilogy at Vistancia.
About an hour from Phoenix lies the private Encanterra Country Club in San Tan Valley, where home sales market share in the Southeast Valley active adult market grew 17% from 2009 to February of 2011. Trilogy at Encanterra, a new active adult enclave within Encanterra Country Club, offers seven floor plans, two of which are brand new to the Encanterra master planned community. The spec levels in all homes have been adjusted to provide more affordable options for consumers who want to live in a private country club setting.
One of the biggest benefits to purchasing a home at Trilogy at Encanterra is the social membership privileges at La Casa – a private club that boasts 60,000+ square feet of indoor and outdoor luxury including four dining options ranging from fine, seasonal fare at Bistro 1528 to casual Café Solaz, the pool-side grill, 2 full bars, a wine tasting venue, a full-service spa, the Mallorca Event Center, an athletic club that includes a women-only gym, three pools, lighted championship tennis courts, and an outdoor amphitheater.
To deliver memorable experiences to active adult baby boomers, at the beginning of 2011, Encanterra launched The Good Life Festival, a concert series featuring award-winning artists such as The Guess Who, Three Dog Night, Kenny G and Chicago.
Located among the beautiful foothills of north Peoria in the Northwest Phoenix metro area, Trilogy at Vistancia was the number one selling active adult community capturing 35 percent of market share last year, and has retained that position into 2011. Vistancia was named America’s Best Master Planned Community in 2005, a recognition defined by its resort-style amenities.
Trilogy at Vistancia includes a thoughtfully organized collection of multi-generational family villages, all connected by a hiking-trail system. Homeowners are surrounded by acres of open space in which to play and enjoy the 334 days of Arizona sunshine.
At the heart of the Trilogy community is the Kiva Club, a 35,000-square-foot hub for connecting with others. Under its roof, the state-of-the-art athletic club includes everything from cutting-edge fitness equipment to Tai Chi classes, health and fitness trainers and its own naturopath. Members can indulge in a massage treatment at the Alvea Spa or enjoy delicious cuisine and company at Café Solaz or The Verde Grill.

55CommunityGuide.com – Comprehensive Directory of 55+ Retirement Communities
55CommunityGuide.com – Comprehensive Directory of 55+ Retirement Communities
Alpharetta, GA (PRWEB) August 28, 2007
Retirement Media Inc. announces 55CommunityGuide.com has been launched with a good start on its goal of being the most comprehensive directory of 55+ communities and homes on the Internet. Retirement communities and Realtors specializing in 55+ homes may place FREE Premium directory listings on the 55CommunityGuide.com site. This is helping build 55CommunityGuide.com’s directory of retirement community listings while giving excellent exposure to the retirement community, according to Robert Fowler, President of Retirement Media Inc.
Retirement Media Inc. was created in 2006 by Robert Fowler after he sold his home rental ads and property management sites to Consumer Source Interactive. Fowler, age 59, looked at other opportunities and decided his new focus would be retirement sites, especially those related to Boomers and the question of where to live in their retirement.
SmallTownRetirement.com was Fowler’s first site in this new endeavor and has done quite nicely showing up organically in the search engines, a skill Fowler developed with his previous sites. SmallTownRetirement.com includes a blog where reviews of active adult communities, small towns and retirement communities are made. Fowler says “A representative of Pulte/Del Webb read our blog and contacted me requesting I review their three new Georgia communities.” Fowler was impressed. “I had no idea how nice these new Active Adult Communities are and think they will be a big hit to Boomers my age.”
Noting there is no one place to see information on all retirement communities, 55CommunityGuide.com was begun to fill that niche. The site provides Boomers, Seniors and pre-retirees a resource to locate retirement communities and places to retire. The types of properties in 55CommunityGuide.com’s directory are 55+ communities, active adult retirement communities, retirement communities, 55+ friendly homes and subdivisions, 55+ condos, manufactured homes, second and vacation homes and brokers/agents catering to 55 plus homes. We even have a category for affordable retirement communities.
55CommunityGuide.com is always free for those looking for a retirement community or a place to live. Communities and agents can place their free premium ad by clicking the “Advertise with Us” link on top of the home page. 55CommunityGuide.com also includes classifieds ads for agents with individual 55 homes to advertise and sections where open houses and preview events can be scheduled, retirement articles and promotional advertising.

Seniors Housing Communities Embrace Brain Fitness Centers
Washington, DC (PRWEB) September 8, 2008
The American Seniors Housing Association (ASHA) is releasing today a Special Issue Brief that describes the use of computerized brain fitness tools being offered to seniors housing residents as part of comprehensive wellness initiatives. The Brief was prepared for ASHA by Alvaro Fernandez, co-founder and CEO of SharpBrains, a recognized thought leader in the growing science-based brain fitness market.
The 15-page report, entitled ”Brain Fitness Centers in Senior Housing: A Field in the Making,” provides an overview of the brain fitness field with four case studies that shed light on the use of brain fitness centers in seniors housing communities, including those operated by Senior Star Living of Tulsa, OK, Belmont Village Senior Living of Houston, TX, and Erickson Retirement Communities of Catonsville, MD.
In releasing the Special Issue Brief, David Schless, ASHA’s President, noted, “This report truly underscores how cutting-edge technology and science are being used to enhance the lives of seniors. It is particularly exciting to contemplate the enormous potential impact that computerized cognitive assessments and training can have for seniors housing residents.” According to the author, Alvaro Fernandez, “This is the very first publication in the field of brain fitness to address specific considerations related to seniors housing, expanding on our general market report released earlier this year. It is very conceivable that the early and enthusiastic adaptation of cognitive fitness, supported by the solid measurement of outcomes reported in the Brief, will help to transform the way in which the general population perceives seniors housing.”
A limited number of copies of the Special Issue Brief are available for purchase at ASHA’s online bookstore at www.seniorshousing.org and at www.sharpbrains.com .
The American Seniors Housing Association (ASHA) was created in 1991 by a number of leading seniors housing providers seeking an effective voice on Capitol Hill. Today, ASHA’s membership has grown to 350 companies that develop, operate, and finance the entire spectrum of seniors housing. ASHA’s membership owns and/or manages more than 600,000 units of senior apartments, independent living, assisted living, and continuing care retirement communities. Over the years, ASHA’s members have come to rely on the Association for its expertise in three key areas – federal advocacy; seniors housing research; and networking and exchange of strategic business information. For more information, visit www.seniorshousing.org or call (202) 237-0900.
SharpBrains is a market research and advisory services firm devoted to helping retirement communities, health providers, investors, universities and policymakers understand and participate in the emerging brain fitness field through a variety of market intelligence products and services. In March 2008, the firm published the first market report covering the category, titled ”The State of the Brain Fitness Software Market 2008.” SharpBrains.com, the firm’s educational website, is an acclaimed source of brain research and cognitive fitness information and resources. The site is a member of Scientific American Partner Network. For more information, visit www.sharpbrains.com or call (415) 318-3467.
